Welcome to our beautiful city! For processing C-41 and B&W, you have a few options. There is Oscar’s Photo Lab (790 Brannan @ 7th St) www.oscarsphotolab.com, who I haven’t used yet, but comes recommended by my film & paper guy, who worked in a photo lab. He’s never steered me wrong. There is also Photoworks, which I’ve had spotty experience with: dusty negatives.
While you’re in SF, you should also check out Glass Key Photo. That’s where I get all my photo supplies & he also stocks film cameras of all sorts. It’s located in Rooky Ricardo’s Records (448 Haight St @ Fillmore), which is also awesome, they specialize in soul & R&B 45s. It’s analog heaven!
I’m having great camera spotting luck on Muni! Met Kirill, the owner of these beauties on the 5 Fulton in San Francisco. A Rollei (the exact model which I can’t remember) and Lecia M6. We chatted about gear & processing. So cool to meet people who are keeping film photography alive. You can see some of his work here.
PS: Kirill wrote to tell me that it’s a rolleiflex 2.8F with Carl Zeiss Planar 80mm.
This was a slow year for me, I guess. I got a Rollei, a Canonet QL17, a point & shoot Nikon, a Polaroid One Step and Polaroid Sun LMS 600. Spent most the year waiting for a good TLR. How about you?
Reblog if Tokyo Camera Style encouraged your purchase of a film camera in 2011.
What did you get?
Saw this pair on the 38 Geary bus, heading out to the ruins of the Sutro Baths. Was a little flustered, since it’s not often I come across film cameras on the Dirty Eight. Took this pics with my iPhone 3G, which still surprises me sometimes. The owner of the Lecia knows the guy behind Tokyo Camera Style. Small world.

Sorry I’ve been away, I’ve been cooing sweet nothings to my newly acquired Rollei….Also been shooting film like no one’s business & developing.
I started this blog without thinking how bad I am at talking to strangers. Apparently, I’m also terrible at spotting cameras & taking photos under pressure. I’ve gotten 2 of strangers so far, one of a Konica SLR that I rendered unusable with too harsh of a flash. :( But I hope to get better.
The Argus rangefinder was something that Ashland at the Photo Center pulled out of the supply closet for me, it’s a very pretty machine. Functional, I’m told. The Olympus XA2 belongs to my photo taking buddy, I found it at Goodwill for cheep. Put new seals in it, but now the shutter is a bit stiff. Oh, well.
We interrupt our regular programming for a new addition to my collection. I’ve been wanting a TLR, but didn’t think I would be lucky enough to score a Rollei! This one was lovingly cleaned & repaired by Dan Daniels & found at Glass Key Photo. There’s a learning curve, but I absolutely love it. I’m sorry, my other pretties, there’s a new favorite camera in town.
